Austria's oldest funicular railroad

On August 1, 2012, the funicular railroad that leads up to Hohensalzburg Fortress turned 120 years old. The railroad has been popular with Salzburgers and tourists since 1892 - it carries over 2 million passengers a year. The new generation of the FestungsBahn, built in 1892, offers many advantages. The driver's cab on the valley side has been dispensed with, making room for a panoramic window that offers up to 55 passengers an even better view of the city of Salzburg during the 54-second ride.
